Not the greatest morning.  Having phone issues trying to post this SOTD.  Imgur keeps locking up my phone forcing me to restart it.  In the grand scheme of things I guess it’s actually a small issue but oh so annoying! LOL

Went for the delicious scent of cocoa puffs this morning!  Mickey Lee’s Bee Witched is absolutely insane in how good it smells!  To my nose it’s exactly like Cocoa Puffs.  Makes me hungry every time I shave with it.  The performance is fantastic also.  Super thick, yogurt-y chocolate lather with excellent cushion and slickness.  The skin feel after the shave is silky.  I probably don’t need to use a moisturizer after but I do out of habit.  I need to get some more Mickey Lee soap.  What should the next scent acquisition be?

Last shave on the fabulous Kai blade.  I love these blades!  Can’t thank my bud Hugo enough for putting me onto them.  These blades have taken Personna Reds place in my blade hierarchy.  Definitely grabbing more of these on my next blade order.  Results of this morning shave?  BBS face, neck, and dome!  Did you expect anything less?

One more day till the weekend!

Had a great weekend! Spent the day in Grand haven.  Although the Coast Guard Fest wasn’t actually underway yet, still had a fun day of wandering the nautical themed downtown, eating great food, and even spent some time lounging and splashing at the beach!  Ended up going back into town for dinner, then back to the beach for the sunset.  I need more of these days.

Very fragrant shave this morning.  I absolutely love the almond scent.  Wholly Kaw has one of the best/most potent.  I’m sure I’ve mentioned that I love strong scents.  This one stays with you from beginning to end.  But it’s not so strong that it interferes with your aftershave.  Pairing it with my Cherry sandalwood PSO had my whole shave den smelling like cherry cobbler!  The performance of this soap is top tier.  Thick, rich lather that whips up easily.  Great skin feel and cushion.  Decent glide.  I have no complaints 🙂

Second shave on the Kai blade.  Still super sharp, still smooth.  I got BBS on the dome, face, and neck with very little effort.  No blood loss or irritation.  This blade is a good match for this older Tech head.  I love the confidence the Techs give me during the shave.  I can just whip those razors around and not worry about it.

Had a great pre-weekend outing last night.  My kid surprised me with a visit and we stopped by the opening night of The Taste of Kalamazoo!  It’s all about food & drink & music!  Had a pretty good time as the crowds hadn’t really shown up yet.  Rumblefish was the opening band.  They are always a good time!

Fantastic shave this morning!  Woke up feeling like I slept really well.  So I wanted a vibrant scented shave.  Pulled out the Kell’s Dragons Blood.  It’s hard for me to describe this scent but I love it.  It’s kind of a citrusy/spicey/herbal thing.  You really need to check it out.  Kell’s is my only soap in the “melt & pour” category.  I tend to stay away from those soaps in favor of croaps or traditional pucks, but this Kell’s is easily one of the best latherers I have.  In case you didn’t notice the pic. LOL  Skin feel is very good during and after shave.

Went back to my Black handled Tech today.  It just felt like a better choice than any of my TTOs this morning.  No real reason why, just a gut instinct.  And it seems I was right as I ended up with a near perfect BBS shave.  Zero errors and silky smooth!  I feel good!

TGIF!!  A lot going on this weekend!  Everyone be safe!

SOTD 7/22 You Know What I’m Saiyan?

07222015

Pre: n/a
Brush: Custom Boar by Steve Brown Swirl Handle
Soap: Dr. Jon’s Handcrafted Shaving Soap – Big Green Monster
Razor: ’38-39 Gillette Senator TTO
Blade: Dorco(2)
Splash:   Humphreys Alcohol Free Cucumber Melon Witch Hazel Facial Toner
Post: Brut Original Fragrance Moisturizing ASB & Pinaud Clubman Classic AS – Vanilla

It’s Hump Day.  Work week is almost over.  Seems to be moving rather slow for me.  Probably because I’m looking forward to the Coast Guard Fest this weekend!  If you’re going to be in SW Michigan, you definitely want to check it out and say thanks to our Coast Guard men & women!

Used a couple of items this morning I haven’t used in quite awhile.  Still rotating through my neglected TTOs and as such I pulled out my Senator!  I still remember how giddy I was when I realized what I had found at that lil hole in the wall antique shop.  Love this razor!  It’s admittedly a little worse for wear.  I’d probably rate it as “fair to middling” condition.  But it shaves like it’s brand spanking new!  A bit more on the aggressive side than my Super Speeds.

I paired the Senator with a blade I haven’t used since back in the beginning of this shave journey.  A Dorco blade.  Dorco doesn’t get a lot of love in the shaving community.  Last year I posted a blade comparison where I rated the Dorco blade as average.  I am still of that opinion.  It’s a decent blade, just nothing that stands out about it.  This morning gave me a smooth, very close shave with only one tiny nick.  Still decently sharp and smooth on it’s second shave.  Worth checking out if you haven’t used Dorco before.

Only 3 days till the weekend!!

SOTD 7/18 Fat Boys Are Back

07182015

Pre: Maggard Razors PSO – Grapefruit
Brush: Shea Moisture Synthetic Brush
Soap: Through The Fire Fine Craft Shaving Soap – Ignite
Razor: ’61 Gillette Adjustable “Fat Boy” aka Mr. Big Stuff
Blade: Gillette Wilkinson Sword(3)

Post: Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Lotion & Old Spice ReFresh Body Spray –  Wolfthorn

It’s hot.  And sticky.  And so humid.  Not ideal shaving conditions for me.  Even with the AC on, it’s still “damp” in my apartment.  So cold shower this morning after a short, hot, stiffling walk with Chico, who is currently sprawled out under the ceiling fan lol

I wanted a refreshing shave this morning so I pulled out the Ignite by Maria Arman.  This soap has an amazing scent.  I call it my fruit loops soap.  It also has fantastic performance, as all of Maria’s soaps do.  Awesome lather, great cushion, and good slickness.  I have yet to be disappointed by any of her products that I have tried.

Last shave on the Wilkinson blade in the Fat Boy.  A decent middle of the road blade.  Decently smooth, sharp enough.  Nothing spectacular about it but it’s a good solid workhorse kind of blade.  I’d rate it a step or so below the Astra SP, but it is a similar blade.

Time to order some more blades.  Any suggestions?

SOTD 7/13 Fruit Salad

07132015

Pre: Maggard Razors PSO – Grapefruit

Razor: Gillette TTO Black Handle
Blade: Kai Stainless Steel(3)

Post: Old Spice ReFresh Body Spray –  Wolfthorn

I had another fantastic weekend! Friday night saw Erylak Badu in concert!  If you like her music, you HAVE GOT TO see her live!  It’s incomparable.  Saturday bopped around town during the day and ended up at another Growlers baseball game.  And we won!  It was a great game, Go Growlers!  Sunday was road trip day, ended up spending the afternoon in Frankenmuth, MI of all places.  It is a beautiful little town!  Very old school German look and feel to it.  Lot’s of cool shops & restaurants.  Worth the drive if you’re ever on that side of the state!

Woke up this morning with Derby on my mind so, Derby Lemon it is!  Excellent lather as usual. Nice cushion, great slickness.  Awesome lemon scent.  You don’t need anything else!  Oh did I mention that it is dirt cheap?  A must buy for our frugal shavers (that would be me)!

3rd shave on the Kai blade. Still super sharp.  Maybe a tad less smooth.  Still ended up with a nice BBS top to bottom and no errors.  I hadn’t shaved since Friday afternoon so I had some nice bristle to mow through.  Of course my version of bristle would be baby fuzz to some of you hairy guys, but hey I’m blessed to have any facial hair at all LOL

Trying out Old Spice body spray.  I’m not usually all that into body sprays but the scent (Wolfthorn) captivated me so I thought I’d give it a shot.  Plus it was on sale lol  First impressions – the scent goes on pretty strong.  It’s supposed to “last all day” so maybe that’s why.  Lot of alcohol in this spray.  Expect “the burn” big time on shaved areas…

Monday, Monday… don’t trust that day!

SOTD 7/9 Pumpkin Twist

07092015Pre: Maggard Razors PSO – Cherry Sandalwood Vanilla
Brush: Omega 48 Pro Boar (Brushzilla)
Soap: WSP Rustic Shaving Soap – Pumpkin Spice
Razor: Gillette TTO Black Handle
Blade: Kai Stainless Steel

Post: Nivea Sensitive Post Shave & Lucky Tiger Bay Rum AS

Wet, kind of chilly morning for July.  It’s one of those “not really raining but moist enough that you kind of want your umbrella” days.  So it was a short, quick walk for Chico and I today.  Hopefully the afternoon will be more scenic.

Really good shave this morning.  Still using my TTOs this week so I pulled out the Black Handle.  Hadn’t use that razor since December ’14.  It still had a Personna Lab Blue blade in it, but it had sat too long for me to comfortably use it.  So I popped in a Kai blade.  Love those blades!  Sheared off 2 days of growth like it was no big deal.  Left my dome feeling smooth like Barry Whites voice!  Sho’ you right!  Face and neck were super silky also, even my problem area.  No blood this morning.

I used my WSP Pumpkin Spice.  Love the scent of this soap.  Always makes me hungry for pumpkin pie.  The lather is definitely in my Top 10 of best lathers.  Maybe even Top 5.  Hmm, I need to put that list together.  I’ll do one for blades also.  But back to the soap; thick, luscious lather.  Slick, and full of cushion.  Can’t go wrong with this lather.  If you’ve never used WSP, do yourself a favor and pickup a sample.  I’d say just grab a tin, but I’m a big fan of samples because as always YMMV.  Just because I love something doesn’t mean you will.  Although you should 😉

Have a great Thursday!

SOTD 7/6 Recovery Shave

07062015

Pre: Shave Secret
Brush: VDH Kit Brush – Boar
Soap: Catie’s Bubbles – Celtic Knot
Razor: ’55 Gillette Super Speed Blue Tip
Blade: Astra SP
Splash: Humphreys Alcohol Free Cucumber Melon Witch Hazel Facial Tone
Post: Gillette Lotion AS & Aqua Velva Classic – Ice Blue

Man what a weekend!  I have been going non-stop since Friday morning!  Every day was pretty awesome.  Friday was lunch in the park. Food trucks! Live Music.  Then hanging with friends.  The Fourth was a whirlwind of activity culminating with a double header semi-pro baseball game (we lose the first, won the second), and laying in center field watching amazing close fireworks overhead.  There was a glitch at the end so the finale got scrubbed mid-way but it was still a great show.  Then Sunday spent the day at a fantastic Lake Michigan beach with loved ones.  All in all, I’d say a perfect weekend!  I’m ready to start the week, refreshed!

So to kick off the work week, I pulled out the Celtic Knot.  This has a very fresh, masculine scent and is good for adding a bit o’pep to the morning shave.  Like any Catie’s soap the performance is top notch.  Easily makes smooth, slick lather with decent cushion.  I love the post shave skin feel of Catie’s soaps.  Feels smooth and protected.  I feel like I really don’t need to additionally moisturize after shaving with Catie’s.  I mean I do moisturize, but if I was in a rush, my skin probably would not suffer if I skipped that step.

Back to my old faithful Astra SP blade in my Blue Tip.  I had been neglecting my TTOs & Super Speeds in favor of my Techs and similar razors, so I’m rectifying that this week.  The Astra SP performed as expected.  Mowed down 2 days growth like nothing.  Ended up BBS face & Dome and very close and smooth on the neck.  No errors.

Have a great Monday!!

“It’s the first of the month… so cash your checks and come on!” – Bone Thugs. That’s right it’s the first, so stay away from grocery stores because it is going to be a nightmare!  Especially with the holiday around the corner also!  Maybe it’s just where I live but MAN I would rather starve a day than go to the store on the first!

It’s Hump day again!  Mid-week so I needed something to kick me into “getting ready for the weekend mode”.  Mickey Lee’s soap is just what I needed!  I haven’t really had this soap that long.  I think this only my 3rd time shaving with it, but I can already definitely say this soap makes my favorite lather!  That’s a pretty bold statement considering all of the great lathering soaps I have in my obsession.  And this isn’t a knock at any of them.  Just giving props!  This lather is perfect for me and the way I shave.  Easily generated, thick, yogurt-y, dense lather!  And I could go on and on about the scent of this soap.  If you haven’t smelled it, what the ‘H’ ‘E’ double hockey sticks are you waiting for?

2nd shave on the Ninja blade.  Still very sharp and decently smooth.  Minor buffing in the problem areas.  The Ninjas seems to stay pretty consistent through 3 shaves for me.  Pretty sure I could actually push this blade to 4-5 shaves.  Definitely 4.  But feh.. blades are still super cheap right?  3 and out is my motto!

Happy Hump Day!!
