It is COLD and windy this morning!  Not as windy as yesterday when we had 60mph wind gusts, but it is still very windy today.  And wet since it rained all night.  Plus they are predicting that moisture could turn into snow flurries.  Nice, right?  NO.

After that frigid walk I was looking forward to a nice warm shave.  Opted for the Big Green Monster by Dr. Jon’s.  I like the scent of this soap.  Another one of those thats a complex scent for me – peppermint, basil, and lime.  It’s a great combination.  Whips up into a nice creamy lather.  Not the most dense but has decent cushion and slickness.  Good skin feel after the shave.  And for those that care about such things – it’s a vegan soap.

Third shave on the Derby blade.  Still decently sharp.  Definitely not as smooth.  But no errors or blooding this morning.  Had to chase the baby a bit in my problem areas but otherwise a smooth and comfortable shave.

TGIF!  Have a great weekend!  I’m going to Chicago.  What are your favorite stops there?

It’s Hump Day.  Work week is almost over.  Seems to be moving rather slow for me.  Probably because I’m looking forward to the Coast Guard Fest this weekend!  If you’re going to be in SW Michigan, you definitely want to check it out and say thanks to our Coast Guard men & women!

Used a couple of items this morning I haven’t used in quite awhile.  Still rotating through my neglected TTOs and as such I pulled out my Senator!  I still remember how giddy I was when I realized what I had found at that lil hole in the wall antique shop.  Love this razor!  It’s admittedly a little worse for wear.  I’d probably rate it as “fair to middling” condition.  But it shaves like it’s brand spanking new!  A bit more on the aggressive side than my Super Speeds.

I paired the Senator with a blade I haven’t used since back in the beginning of this shave journey.  A Dorco blade.  Dorco doesn’t get a lot of love in the shaving community.  Last year I posted a blade comparison where I rated the Dorco blade as average.  I am still of that opinion.  It’s a decent blade, just nothing that stands out about it.  This morning gave me a smooth, very close shave with only one tiny nick.  Still decently sharp and smooth on it’s second shave.  Worth checking out if you haven’t used Dorco before.

Only 3 days till the weekend!!

You know it’s been insanely cold, when 23 degrees feels WARM to you LOL  You would have thought it was a holiday with all the people out and about this morning.  Made for a pretty lively and interesting walk this morning.

Pulled out the 2nd Dr. Jons soap from my order.  Big Green Monster.  Love the name, love the graphics, love the scent!  The scent is unusual for me.  My nose picks up a grassy, minty mix.  The actual ingredients include lime, peppermint, and sweet basil.  So I assume the “grassy-ness” i’m getting is the basil?  Whatever, all I know is I really like it!  As far as the peppermint, it’s just enough to be noticeable.  It builds a bit during the shave, but it never gets intense, which is fine with me.  So if you’re looking for a menthol type soap, but dont want to be overwhelmed by it, this is a good pick for you!  The performance was similar to the HEX soap, which was to be expected.  I presume the only real difference between them is the scents.  Good lather, great slickness.  Again, I recommend this soap!

I talked my self into trying my straight again.  I haven’t really touched it since I shaved with it in October.  For some reason I woke up with it  on my mind this morning.  So I pulled it out. I used it on my face (cheeks) and neck.  With grain passes only.  It was nerve wracking LOL  And I discovered that I am not ambidextrous at all.  God forbid I should lose use of my right hand as I would be so screwed when it comes to shaving!  Regardless I was able to complete one pass with no bloodshed.

I finished up (and shaved the dome) with the Flare Tip and the Sputnik blade.  Blade was on it’s 3rd shave.  Was still nicely sharp and super smooth.  I had kind of forgotten this blade.  I know I need to grab at least another pack of these.  If you haven’t tried them, I’d say go for it.  Good blade.

Enjoy your day!
