Pretty frosty this morn. Down in the mid 20s. Still no snow though so I can deal with the cold! I would not be disappointed if we had a green Christmas! I really don’t think Chico would be either LOL
Odd shave today. Started out with a proven favorite from Maggards, London Barbershop. I’ve talked many times previously about how much I love this soap. But for some reason today the performance was sub-par. I know it has to be user error as it’s performed flawlessly for me many, many times. But I can’t figure out what went south. I prepared it the same way I always do. maybe there’s been an unnoticed change in my water. I just could not get a decent lather. I got a lather, but it wasn’t the thick, cushion-y lather that I typically get with this soap. It got the job done, but I was a little disappointed.
Secondly, I previously paired a Lord Platinum blade with my Black Beauty, which is typically a decent match. Today not so much. I’m blaming it on the blade. I have noticed that the Lords can occasionally be inconsistent. I think that’s the case with this blade. It just wasn’t smooth at all. I got BBS, but with mild irritation in many spots. Gonna pull the blade. Cie la vie!
It’s Hump Day! My mid-week drink today will be a bottle of Not Your Fathers Rootbeer from SmallTown Brewery! That beer is good!

Great morning! Woke up feeling like I got good sleep last night which is rare for me. So I’m thinking my latest medical procedure must be working. Thank God 🙂
Very good shave this morning. Paired up a Lord Platinum blade and my black handle Tech. I’m a little suspicious about the Lord blade though. The package says Lord Platinum. The actual blade says Lord Super Stainless. So, I don’t know if these are actual Platinum blades or not. Regardless it performed very well today. Was decently sharp, and fairly smooth. Was able to achieve BBS with minimal effort. No errors. Very little touch up needed.
Pulled out the Derby cream. This soap is another low priced champion that should be in every shavers collection. Excellent lather with great cushion and slickness. At this price point it’s really hard to find a better soap than Derby. My favorite is the Lemon but the Mint is great also. The only difference is the scent. For less than $3, you can’t go wrong with this soap.

Sunday morning! Usually my Sunday shaves are some of my most enjoyable as I’m not rushed and I take more time with my prep, plus I have my music wafting through the house. This mornings playlist was mostly a mix of smooth jazz and 80s RnB. But anyway, todays shave was not to be included in that category.
I know it sounds hard to believe, but I think I’ve found a blade/razor combo that is TOO MILD for me.. ME! Yep sounds crazy to me too. I tossed a Lord Platinum in the Frankentech, thinking it would give me a nice close shave. I’ve heard good things about the Lord Platinums. Israeli I believe. So I whipped the TOBS into it’s usually bountiful, rich lather. The almond scent combined with the post humidity of my shower had the room smelling awesome! Smelled so good Chico came in to sniff around and investigate LOL
Back to the shave, the Lord blade with the Tech head was so mild at times it felt like it wasn’t even cutting hair. I had to go over several spots several times. The lack of feedback also had me unconsciously applying more pressure so I ended up with a few minor weepers. The witch hazel was happy to inform me of several patches where’d I’d irritated the skin also. I should have stopped and finished with a different blade, but I’m stubborn like that.
Ended up with a decent shave, with some less than close areas that I gave up on so to not irritate them further. Lesson learned. Next time I use a Lord blade it will be in my MR3. Have a great Sunday!
P.s. This is what Chico was up to while I was abusing my dome…
