Here comes the rain again.. woke up this morning channeling Annie Lennox.  We got drenched over night, and today are going to get hit by a huge cold front.  Fun right? The high temp for today occurred at MIDNIGHT, so it’s all colder from there.  Not looking forward to it.

So I was rumbling around in the bathroom last night and guess what I found stuck behind the shelves, hidden from view?  My Ogallala shaving stick!  I had totally forgotten about this gem!  Outta sight outta mind right?  Well I’m so glad I re-discovered this soap.  First the fragrance.  I love the scent of this soap.  A perfect blend of lemongrass and bay rum!  Just lemony enough without being overbearingly citrus-y.  And I love their take on the classic bay rum scent.  A tad sweet with a nice blend of spices.  Plus it’s a stick!  I love sticks for the convenience and because they are just plain fun to use.  I just rub it on the dome like a stick of butter.  Dosen’t take much, just a thin layer.  Then I pull out my big ole Omega 48 brush and massage up a smooth, slick lather!  The Omega generates and holds enough soap for 3 complete passes on the dome without reapplying the soap!  No bowl needed.  I really need to explore other stick soaps.  I know my favorite Arko has a stick version…

3rd shave on the Wilkinson.  Definitely has lost a lot of smoothness.  Stuttered a bit here and there on only 2 days growth.  Two days growth on my face/dome is probably like 12 hours growth on some of you guys LOL  Ended up BBS but paid for it with a couple of small weepers and some slight irritation over the ears.  Nothing major.  Just have to remember not to take the Sword blades past 2 shaves.

Have a great weekend!

Don’t you hate it when you have a tiny little nick, that just wont heal fully because you keep forgetting about it, and keep hitting it with the razor.  I’ve got one of those in the back of my head and I swear I hit it every time I shave, for the last few days.  Annoying right?

Regardless this morning was a good one.  Had a nice, crisp walk with Chico.  Actually had to pull out the hoodie finally, but it felt good.  I do like Fall, I just hate that it means Winter is right around the corner.

Pulled out a sample I picked up earlier this Spring/Summer, Ignite by TTFFCSS.  I absolutely LOVE the scent of this soap.  But then, I have yet to run into one of Maria’s scents that I haven’t liked, so I may be a tad biased. She’s also the maker behind many of Maggard Razors amazing soaps.  You can’t go wrong with either brand.  Great lather, Cushion-y, good slickness, fantastic scents!  I need to grab a full size jar of this.  You should too.  The scent is a very fruit sweet, citrus-y, bright scent.

Paired up the MR3 with an Astra SP.  Performed exactly as expected for a couple of tried and trusted tools.  BBS dome with no errors… except that one tiny spot I keep hitting.  Ugh.

What day is it?  It’s HUMP day!  Only two more days till the weekend!  Supposed to be a beautiful one also!  Great walk this morning.  The weather was clear, crisp, and sunny.  Perfect Fall morning!

Gonna start right off with the most exciting part of this shave.  You may have noticed in the pic that I have… a new brush!  Yes, that’s right I finally obtained a Silvertip!  All thanks to my “patron saint of shaving”, Pete Schiavoni!  He felt I should have one in my “arsenal”!  I cannot say enough about the kindness and generosity of this gentleman.  If you know him, you know of what I speak!  I hope to soon be able to break bread with him in person 🙂

Love this brush!  It is so soft and has a nice backbone.  Not floppy at all.  Holds a decent amount of lather, and feels good applying it to the dome.  My other badger brush, a Pure Badger class, doesn’t feel nearly as nice which is why it dosen’t get much use.  But this badger will get plenty, trust me!

Jeeves of Hudson soap is always a great shave!  Thick, smooth lather.  Very good slickness and cushion.  Great skin feel after the shave.  I like the scent, but it is fairly light for my preferences.  I like a scent to encompass the shave.  This scent is nice but very faint to my nose.

Second shave on the Sputnik.  Still nicely sharp & smooth.  Minor touch up over the ears.  Ended up a BBS and comfortable dome!

It is definitely feeling like Fall these last few days.  Actually had to pull out the long sleeves and socks!  But it’s not going to last, weather guy just predicted several upcoming days of 80+ temps so Summer has gotten an extension.  I’m not complaining.  Although I love Fall, I have never been a fan of Winter.  At all.

I awoke to the radio playing a remix of SWV singing “Anything (You Want Me To)” with a surprising appearance of Wu-Tang members Ol’ Dirty Bastard & Method Man!  How have I never heard this before?  Anyway, so I went into the shave with the Killa Bees (Wu-Tang) in my head and I chose the soap appropriately.  I absolutely love Bee Witched by Mickey Lee.  It creates some of the densest, yogurt-y lather of just about any soap I have ever used.  The lather is simply incredible.  And the scent.  Oh man.  If you like the scent of cocoa, even a little bit, you are going to LOVE this soap.  I swear it makes me want to devour a huge bowl of Cocoa Krispies every time!  One of my top 5 soaps.

Third shave on the Astra SP blade.  Still plenty sharp.  Maybe a tad less smooth.  But then again it was working against a 3 day growth so the smoothness was probably on par.  I’m gonna push this one to four shaves, just as a test.  I like living dangerously… LOL

Great morning! Had a nice walk with Chico downtown.  The only thing that marred an otherwise perfect moment were the sounds of demolition a block away from me.  I admit I am getting tired of waking to the sounds of chunks of concrete getting slammed into a dump truck.  But such is downtown living in a growing town!

I REALLY wanted to use my PAL razor this morning.  I haven’t used it in months.  Don’t know why but I woke up with it on my mind.  But two things stopped me.  First I went back and looked at my last couple of SOTDs with the PAL.  They weren’t favorable.  Secondly, I couldn’t remember how many shaves the blade has on it. So that combination  made it a NO GO for the PAL.  But then I remembered I had a Schick L Series, so I pulled that out.  The last time I used it (also months ago), I had a great shave with it.  This morning was definitely a repeat!  I don’t know why I don’t use this razor more.  Back when I first started shaving, I succumbed to that myth that single edged razors are crazy aggressive.  But just like double edge razors, some are, and some aren’t.  Fell in serious like with the PAL and the L Series.  Still haven’t formally introduced myself to my GEMs yet. Maybe I will this month..

Yep, it’s an Arko day.  I think I’ve ranted on and on about Arko enough.  I’m pretty sure you know how I feel about Arko.  But just in case you need a reminder.  LOVE IT.  Can’t get enough of the scent.  Great performance, probably the top in it’s price range.  Ended up BBS, no errors.  Arko & Schick is a fantastic combo!

SOTD 7/9 Pumpkin Twist

Razor: Gillette TTO Black Handle

Wet, kind of chilly morning for July.  It’s one of those “not really raining but moist enough that you kind of want your umbrella” days.  So it was a short, quick walk for Chico and I today.  Hopefully the afternoon will be more scenic.

Really good shave this morning.  Still using my TTOs this week so I pulled out the Black Handle.  Hadn’t use that razor since December ’14.  It still had a Personna Lab Blue blade in it, but it had sat too long for me to comfortably use it.  So I popped in a Kai blade.  Love those blades!  Sheared off 2 days of growth like it was no big deal.  Left my dome feeling smooth like Barry Whites voice!  Sho’ you right!  Face and neck were super silky also, even my problem area.  No blood this morning.

I used my WSP Pumpkin Spice.  Love the scent of this soap.  Always makes me hungry for pumpkin pie.  The lather is definitely in my Top 10 of best lathers.  Maybe even Top 5.  Hmm, I need to put that list together.  I’ll do one for blades also.  But back to the soap; thick, luscious lather.  Slick, and full of cushion.  Can’t go wrong with this lather.  If you’ve never used WSP, do yourself a favor and pickup a sample.  I’d say just grab a tin, but I’m a big fan of samples because as always YMMV.  Just because I love something doesn’t mean you will.  Although you should 😉

Have a great Thursday!

Great morning although I was awoken to the sound of cannon balls striking a gong!  Well that’s what it sounded like.  The building across the street chose that time to toss large metal things into an empty dumpster, so the sound echoed throughout the neighborhood.  But considering I’m the only residential person on a commercial block, I’m sure they didn’t get any complaints.  Grrrrr…

It’s ARKO day! I love Arko.  I think I may have mentioned that a time or two.  Pound for pound it is the best performing puck in it’s price range.  Heck, I’d put it up against just about any other puck out there to be honest.  When it comes to soaps, I tend to prefer “croaps” over pucks and even creams.  But this Arko puck is one of the easiest lathering soaps I have.  Even with my hard water.  I just “bloom” it a little during prep and voila!  Insta-lather! Makes thick, nicely dense, fragrant lather with great slickness.  And the scent?  Don’t get me started on the scent.  People have strong opinions about the Arko scent.  Personally I think it smells like the old school Irish Spring bar soap, which I grew up with.  Love it!  The Arko puck will ALWAYS have a spot in my shave den.  You don’t like like my Arko?  Get the PUCK outta here! 😉

Second shave on the Sputnik. Still good and sharp.  Still smooth.  Gave me a great BBS with no errors or blooding.  Only minor buffing in the problem areas around my ears.  I may have to grab some more of these Sputniks along with my Kai blades.  I see a visit to TryaBlade i the near future….

It’s Hump Day!  Do the humpty hump!  Wetshavers!  Do the humpty hump!

Boy what a week so far!  My daughter has been visiting and has had me running around non stop since my birthday!  But she goes back home today because she has to work Friday (welcome to adulthood baby girl).  We had fun though, and cooked way too much food LOL

I let her pick the scent this morning so I ended up with the cocoa scent of Bee Witched.  She understandably likes this scent.  I think my favorite thing about this soap is the cocoa colored lather it makes!  I still feel like I’m shaving with cereal milk LOL  Excellent performer.  Thick, luscious lather.  Great cushion.  Plenty of glide.  And of course don’t forget the fabulous scent of cocoa and honey!

Last shave in the Feather blade.  Still sharp but noticeably less smooth.  That combined with the fact I was slightly rushed this morning led to some minor nicks in my problem areas.  Nothing more than a spot or two, just enough to tell me to SLOW DOWN.  I should know better.  If I have to rush, I just shouldn’t shave that morning.  But as you know I’m hard headed lol

Have a great Thursday!!

FULL DISCLOSURE:  I no longer shave everyday.  I’ve found that I don’t really need to, and it’s good to give my skin a break every now and then.  Most weeks I end up shaving 3-4 times a week.  I post every time I shave.  I still absolutely love shaving.  Just no longer a daily shaver.

Great shave this morning.  Smelled fruity and delicious!  Paired my Grapefruit PSO with Caties Purple Grapefruit for a great smelling combination.  I love that they smell like the fruit, not like a candy scent.  If you’ve used any of Caties soaps, then you know the performance is top tier.  Great lather, lots of cushion and slickness.  I always end up with plenty of lather left over.  Makes me wish I was hairier LOL

Last shave on the Kai blade.  Still super sharp and decently smooth.  Left me with a BBS on the dome, face, and even the neck!  No errors. Minor buffing in problem areas.  I am developing the opinion that the Kai blade shaves BETTER on it’s 2nd-3rd shaves than on it’s brand new shave.  What do you Kai users think?  Do you agree?

It’s FRIDAY!!  Lot’s going on in town this weekend!  Greekfest, Art in the Park, Art Hop, and more!

Brrr!  Only in Michigan!  34 degrees Fahrenheit this morning!  That’s like a 40 degree shift in two days!  Smh.  I don’t even have words for that.  You’d think I’d be used to it by now LOL

New soap!  I was privileged to be able to preview one of the pre-release versions of this soap and was impressed with it even then.  Now I finally have my hands on the finished product, and my opinion has not changed.  This is a fantastic soap.  First of all, the scent. If you’ve followed my posts you probably know 2 things about me:  I love strong scents, and I LOVE almond/cherry scents!  This soap knocks both out of the park!  I was hesitant to have this soap follow the amazing aromatic experience of the Bee Witched soap, but my worry was misplaced.  The Wholly Kaw soap held it’s own and is definitely “drool” worthy! 🙂

The lather is dense and creamy.  Very good slickness and excellent cushion.  I felt like I was wrapped in almond/cherry goodness.  Don’t get me wrong, the scent isn’t overpowering, but it is a very “present” scent that I really enjoy.  If you haven’t tried Wholly Kaw yet, you should.  This is definitely one of the premier new artisan soaps and a “must try” in my opinion!

Pulled out a razor I haven’t used in quite awhile.  My Maggrd Razors MR3.  It’s a mildly aggressive razor.  Tossed in a 7 O’Clock Yellow blade.  That combo sheared through two days growth like it was nothing.  Blade was sharp and smooth.  Ended up BBS one the dome & face, and a DFS on the neck.  Took me a second to get the feel for the razor again, so I took it easy on the neck.  Couple of tiny nicks.  No irritation.  Overall great shave!

It’s Hump Day!! Almost Memorial day..what’s on your drink list for the holiday?
